Pierre Issa has worked with people with disabilities since the 1970s. In 1985, he co-founded the NGO arcenciel, developing many innovative services during the organization’s history. Pierre has served on the National Committee for Persons with Disabilities in Lebanon, and participated in the launch of various social enterprises working on access to social and medical services, women and youth empowerment and environment preservation. Pierre is the recipient of many prestigious awards and titles, namely: Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, French government (2014); Comendador del Orden Nacional del Mérito, King of Spain (2015); Schwab Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 at the World Economic Forum.

arcenciel has touched the lives of thousands of Lebanese people in need. It’s identity aims to vigorously advance national policies in all the sectors in which it is active, while keeping a non-confessional and apolitical stance. Its mission is adhering to the principles of sustainable development, arcenciel emphasizes the social and economic integration of marginalized people and communities back into society. It believes that every person, no matter the gravity of their handicap, is capable of overcoming their disability and contributing to the communities in which they live. arcenciel supports the diversity of society, and encourages the sustainability and conservation of natural resources in all aspects of its work.
